CITY SOAP HITS THIRD SERIES.

Fire-bombed factories; illicit affairs; stalkers; business rivalry; alcoholism; near-fatal accidents; murder; young lovers; tanning gone wrong. These are just some of the ingredients for Preston’s first and only soap opera – City Soap, which first aired on Preston FM in March last year.

“City soap is about ordinary people in extraordinary situations who live and work in Preston,” says John Mc, one of City Soap’s stars. “We have a married couple, who have got themselves into so much trouble, it is hard to see a way out. Then there is the strained triangle of Donald, his sister, Suzanne, and Lawrence; Donald and Suzanne run one soap factory while Lawrence runs another. Donald and Lawrence get on like Ian Beale and Phil Mitchell, with Suzanne constantly trying to keep the peace.”

Added to this mix are the salon, a melting pot of gossip and intrigue; the young, cost effective, Tom and his long suffering girlfriend Hayleigh; the wheelchair-bound Ben and his mother, Ruth, struggling to keep it together.

John Mc also writes for the soap but is at pains to stress that he is just one of a team. “We are all amateur writers and actors who have managed, against all odds, to produce a radio soap opera to rival The Archers,” says John. “Well, we’d like to think so, anyway. It is a big team, who write, act and produce the programme. This is our first time without technical assistance from the Preston FM staff and we are quite proud of our achievement.”

City Soap can be heard on Tuesdays and Thursdays at six-fifty in the evening. On Preston FM (87.9). You can listen live on www.preston.fm and links to previous episodes can be found on John Mc’s website www.johnmc.co.uk.

Preston FM is a community radio station funded by European Regional Development Fund, AvenCentral Partnership and Preston City Council e-City Project
